Shanghai Bistro is a simple, unfussy establishment, but the food is good, thus making this small restaurant on the hectic Sarjapur road stretch, popular and busy. The restaurant is located in a rather rundown building, on the increasingly populated Jail Road. Of the many dishes on offer, it is the South East Asian offerings, especially the Thai food that really stands out. The Chinese food is what one would expect from an Indian Chinese restaurant, with plentiful choices for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diners. The soups, whether Thai or Chinese, do not offer much by way of flavour, so opt for appetizers rather than a soup course here. Choices include 'Vietnamese Salads', 'Satay', and 'Dim sum', with vegetarian as well as meat-based options. Vegetarians should try the 'Lemongrass Chilli Tofu' or the 'Vietnamese Corn' and 'Coconut Fritters' for something different, while meat eaters can go for the 'Banana Leaf Wrapped Grilled Chicken' and the 'Vietnamese Lemongrass Chicken', and spice lovers should try the 'Crispy Lamb in Devil Sauce'. A section of the mains menu offers Pan Asian Meals, which are worth trying, especially the 'Burmese Curry Pan Fried Noodles', the 'Malaysian Laksa Soup', 'Hainanese Chicken Rice', and 'Kapitan Chicken Curry with Jala Roti' – all South East Asian delicacies that are not so easily found, especially in a small Chinese restaurant!
