This is one of those few kid-friendly places that never fails to please. A sticker menu book for children, with dishes that are not run-of-the-mill, you have brownie points from me right there. Coming to the adults, their floral infusions are one I never tire of – the 'Kiwi', 'Cantaloupe', 'Jasmine' and 'Vodka' is one and the 'Smoked Melon Martini', as well as the 'Peach and Plum Martini', almost always feature for me. Always check with the bartender on what his latest infusions are. Every season throws up something new. The all-day breakfast aside, some good starters here are the 'Crunchy Mozzarella Fritters with Cheese Powder'. The 'Smoked Black Pepper Chicken' and the 'Bacon Wrapped Potatoes' are good choices too. I am not a fan of the average Sweet Corn Soup, but the 'Roasted Sweet Corn with Sour Cream and Truffle oil' is brilliant as is the 'Slow Roast Plum Tomatoes plus Lemongrass'. Smokehouse is one of those few places that does salads the size of main courses – the 'SHD Tomato and Bocconcini Salad', the 'Pear and Mango Chilli Emulsion', the 'Smoked Chicken Caesar' are all brilliant. Coming to the mains, there are just so many to choose from – the 'Lean tenderloin with grilled veggies and some pickled ones too is a beauty when it is done to medium rare perfectly. The 'Smoked Lamb Burger' is also a decadent indulgence – all meat, and robust. The 'Wild Mushroom Risotto' is a favourite and is one I will not get bored of. The 'Three-way Polenta Cake' and 'Bean and Chickpea Stew' are quite heartening. They have a long list of desserts too (always check for specials) – the 'Roasted Almond Ganache Torte', the 'Flourless Chocolate Fudge' and the 'White Chocolate with Lemon' as well as the 'Philly and Plum Cheesecake' are top choices.
