It sounds like an unkind thing to say, but the Dakshin concept is past its sell-by date. When the restaurants first opened in the 1990s, it seemed clever and imaginative to serve a menu comprising food of the South Indian states. But the idea has run its course now that so many other fancy South Indian restaurants have opened. And it only made limited sense in Bengaluru anyway because you get outstanding food from all the South Indian states all over the city. That said, the food at Dakshin can be very good. It cannot be easy to run a kitchen where you need specialists in each South Indian cuisine to achieve the required level of authenticity. But it is still the sort of place you take people you need to entertain rather than a fun restaurant for a family outing or even a date.
