  • While ordering rolls, tell them to fry the onions and to not add any sauces. These rolls are not to be confused with the hot dog-like rolls of Irani and Catholic bakeries of Mumbai
  • Lazeez belongs to Shiraz which is one of the legendary Mughlai restaurants of Kolkata. The biryani at Lazeez is oilier than what is served in Shiraz
  • There are limited seats here and be prepared to have waiters breathing down your neck at dinner time as they try ad turn as many covers as possible

Former Kolkatans in Mumbai were left rudderless when the Mumbai branch of Arsalan, which served Kolkata's Mughlai food, shut down. Lazeez opened soon after Arsalan closed down and offered some respite to devotees of Kolkata's unique Mughlai flavours. It is much smaller than the Arsalan outlet at Khar was. It is air-conditioned though which helps in tackling the heat and the food which tends to be oily and heavy. The rolls, biryani, rezala and chaap are must-tries here. The meat of choice is mutton or goat. If you choose chicken ask for a leg piece as the breast piece tends to be a tad chewy.
