Deccan Canteen occupies the same premises that the now-closed Punjab Grill Hyderabad did. The décor has been tweaked to make it more informal, but the wooden rafters and plush red upholstery on the chairs still project an element of grandeur. The idea of blending robustly flavoured South Indian favourites with spirits is actually a savvy one. While new bars are increasingly emphasising on local flavours, there is not any other watering hole in the city that is dedicated to Southern grub. The selection of fish is limited to Basa. The cocktails use economical IMFL, but the bar does a decent job at balancing the flavours.
