Down Candolim Road stands an interesting story about a panda who walked into an eatery, ordered, ate and then drew a gun to fire two shots in the air. Welcome to Fat Panda, a concept of AAJ of Walk and Roll fame. One reminiscences of Po from Kung-Fu Panda, as they look at the colourful photographs of pandas all around, each one striking a different pose. Mirrors add to the simplicity in the black and white décor. The menu has a smiling panda with chopsticks drawn, which brings a smile to one’s face. A Chinese kitchen, serving old forgotten favourites and a few ‘inspired panda style’ preparations is at the ethos of this restaurant. For starters – the golden fried prawns and the street chilli chicken 70’s style are a good choice and add a touch of nostalgia and crunch simultaneously. The calamari in plum sauce is an interesting mix. The kung pao potatoes and nuts is a great starter for the herbivores. If looking for an American chopsuey with chicken, this is the place to be. It brings back a lot of memories. If spices are what you are looking for then The Roadside Special, Mumbai style with the triple szechwan rice can be a filling meal by itself. The wildlife manual describes the real panda as a large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. It eats, shoots and leaves. Have you ever wondered why those two shots were fired in the air? You might be tempted to make it three with nostalgic memories.
