The first thing that strikes you about this quaint pâtisserie-cum-bistro is the warm, comforting aroma of fresh-baked cakes and cookies that greets you the moment you step in. The interiors are simple yet elegant; the black and white chessboard floor adds a retro touch to the setting. The menu is largely European with an emphasis on French and Italian classics but not too adventurous. Instead, the focus is on robust, tasty food. The coq au crèmant, grilled chicken breast fillet in a velvety cream and wine sauce teaming with chunks of bacon, or the hamburger steak, which sits on a cushion of meaty bacon, covered in savoury gravy loaded with mushrooms and more bacon, are good picks. Or, try the lahm meshwi, a spicy minced meat kabab served with some crunchy bell pepper salad and yoghurt dip, from their recently-added Mediterranean section. For desserts, the French apple tart served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream is a safe bet.
