Social's new lunch menu borrows heavily from local flavours

The menu has been curated by Chef Vipin Thapa

The menu has been curated by Chef Vipin Thapa

It is one of the most talked about casual diners in the city. While much has to do with the decor of the place – there is a replica of a tram in the entryway - there is also a constant endeavour to appeal to the taste buds of the voracious Chandigarh diner. Keeping this in mind, Social has reworked its lunch menu. Tossing up these changes is 'Chef Vipin Thapa'. The chef, who has good experience in Italian, Indian, American and Continental cuisines, wanted to add a dash of local flavours in the menu. With stints at All Sports Bar (Delhi), Sofrito (Chandigarh), PVR Director’s Cut (Delhi) and Hard Rock Cafe (Delhi), Chef Thapa is well-known for his risottos, lasagne and roulades. So what does the new menu offer? We decided to take a look.

When hunger pangs strike, a wholesome meal is welcome. Since Social, housed in Sector 7 also works as a co-working space, a refurbished lunch menu is welcome. Chef Thapa has done well to include dishes that will appeal to the popular palate in the city.

Killa Kulchas

The line-up of kulchas is a step in the right direction. The Aloo Pyaaz and Bacon and Cheese Kulchas are not only lip-smacking but very filling too. Also, on offer is the chef’s version of Delhi’s famed Daulat Ki Chaat. This is a savoury take served with chickpeas, crunchy potatoes and chaat spices.

Tandoori Sausage Platter

Adding a dash of home-style fare are the Cooker Curries, served right from the cooker with your choice of Roti or Rice. The Double Masala Rajma is what comfort food is all about. If you like your meats well done, then do try the Dhaba Style Mutton. It is flavoursome and very filling, even though a tad spicy. The new lunch menu also includes Double Maska Maggi and a decadent halwa sampler that packs in Pumpkin Halwa, Sooji Halwa and Moong Dal Halwa. The sweetness gets an added dollop of Kulfi Ice-cream. All we needed after this lunch meal was a power nap.

A meal for 2 here will cost Rs 800.
