Our guide to the top 5

A wise man once said, ‘stressed’ is just ‘desserts’ spelt backwards. It is true that a good dessert can cheer you up and make you feel extremely happy. Earlier, just a simple chocolate cake, brownie or even a cupcake would work wonders and delight diners. Today, Chefs are getting quite creative and making their desserts as important as the rest of the menu. While chocolate desserts are easily available all over, we decided to pick some non-chocolate ones that are simply delicious, and in most cases, forgotten. Here are just a few of our favourite non-chocolate desserts!

Banoffee Cronut at Colaba Social – The Social is the very last place you would expect a memorable dessert because there is just so much going on. They are a co-sharing workspace, the emphasis is on the alcohol and the nightclub-like vibe in the evenings, and even the food is a mix of comfort food. In all the chaos, their hybrid and rather unusual banoffee cronut (a mix of a banoffee flavoured donut and croissant) is a stellar dish. It is one of the few places where you will actually enjoy a cronut, or even have access to one, and it is worth all the sugar that goes into this dish.

Guava Tan Tan at the Bombay Canteen – When the Bombay Canteen first opened earlier this year there was much talk about this dessert. Beautiful pieces of guava in a delicious pastry topped with a scoop of spicy chilly ice cream is the perfect way to end a meal. Like most dishes at this restaurant, this dessert is seasonal, so it was missing for some time but thankfully guava is in season once again and the dessert made a comeback on the menu.

Craft Beer Popsicles at The White Owl – This microbrewery has not only some very interesting brews but also a beautiful menu with delicious food. It is hard not to have a good meal here and the beers are a great incentive to keep re-visiting. However, when you pair these brews with a dessert, it becomes the only reason to keep coming back for more. The craft beer popsicles with butter cookie crumbs at this brewery and bistro will change the way you look at a Popsicle forever!

Tiramisu at The Sassy Spoon – The Sassy Spoon has two outlets in the city and both are adorable and make for a perfect spot for a meal out. The menu is carefully crafted by Chef Irfan Pabaney, but the dessert menu is the brain child of Chef Rachel Goenka. It can get difficult to choose just one dessert as there are plenty, they do exceptionally well but since we are picking one, it must be their version of a tiramisu. This coffee flavoured Italian dessert pops up on many menus, only a few manage to pull it off. The Sassy Spoon does a great job where the coffee flavour is not over-powering and they also include a layer of chocolate chips which adds a nice crunch to the dessert.

Raspberry Delice at Yauatcha – Known more for their dim sums and teas, Yauatcha also delivers in the dessert department. Plenty to choose from and all worth indulging, but their raspberry delice is the one dessert that featured on multiple instagram accounts. This is a beautiful dessert of raspberry, dark chocolate mousse, hazelnut brownie and raspberry ripple ice cream.
