There are so many kinds of comfort food across the world from noodles to pasta to dal chawal and more. Come monsoon and the craving for deep fried food simply sky rockets. The list of deep fried food is also in abundance but fried chicken is something almost everyone worldwide can relate to. Who doesn’t like the smell of deep fried chicken, whether it is drumsticks, wings or tenders? Here are some places where you can run for your fried chicken craving and I am not talking about KFC.

Chili’s Grill and Bar is the big brand chain which has gained immense popularity in the city. Well, they have 3 outlets just in South Kolkata. Critics might be judgemental about the choice of this eatery but who can deny its acceptance. There are so many options of greasy deep fried food but the Chicken Crispers are the real deal. Lightly battered tender chicken strips which are moist right till the inside and served with corn on the cob, some hand cut fries and a honey mustard dipping sauce is straight forward delicious. Genuine Broaster Chicken is another newly launched worldwide brand in the city with multiple outlets across the length and breadth. Their Legendary Fried Chicken comes in 3 versions - regular, desi style and hot masala chicken. The batter of the regular one is very close to the classic KFC but the chicken is believed to be cooked differently. They are served with curry mango dip, cheesy jalapeno and sweet Thai chilli dip.

Have you tried the Chicken Popcorn at Hoppipola? They have several kinds of chicken in fried form but the Chicken Popcorn is sprinkled with Mediterranean spice rub and served with a Sriracha aioli making it immensely intriguing to try. It is a great choice to go with some classy cocktails or simply beer. And then there is the Cheese Burst Chicken Nuggets at The Irish House served with creamy ranch and garlic fries. A charming cafe which is making its name lately is My Big Fat Belly and food is quite summery, just apt for Kolkata which has summers almost round the year nowadays. The BFB Special Chicken Wings in ghost chilli sauce can be customised into regular spice to an unbelievable amount of smoke through your ears. If you get a kick from the spice, then this is the dish for you. Cafe Mezzuna has a splendid Crispy Fried Chicken Wings with thyme, oregano and house special BBQ sauce.

Looking for a desi kick? Go to The Coastal Macha and ask for the Chicken Pepper Fry. The sharp and pungent heat from the black pepper mixed with other spices gets your taste buds going through the roof. It is insanely good. The Andhra Chicken made with chicken tenders at Bombay Brasserie gives a similar South Indian kick and is entwined with culture and flavour.
