Sinful, indulgent, decadent and everything else!

Chocolate makes everything so much better. If you are happy, celebrate with chocolate. If you are sad or depressed, have some chocolate to lift your spirit. It is one ingredient which is a solution to all problems. On World Chocolate Day 2019, these are the 10 best chocolate desserts in Kolkata.

Cal 27

Chocolate Mud Pie

The all-day dining has had changes over the last two decades but the one dessert that has withstood the test of time is the Chocolate Mud Pie. It is a favourite chocolate dessert of Kolkata and it has very loyal patronage. As you cut into the pie, the liquid centre oozes out. It is served with Cochin Vanilla Ice Cream and is pure indulgence.

Yauatcha

Location: Quest Mall

It may be a Chinese tea house with fine food but their desserts are worth killing. Raspberry Delice, a variety of macarons and many more desserts find a way into their menu.

Chocolate Pebble

Amongst them, the Chocolate Pebble is worth all the calories. It is a crunchy Cocoa Nib Nougatine and the Pecan Coffee Delice, with a mascarpone based gateau, rich buttery pecans, dark smoky coffee and crispy feuilletine. Just the idea of so many elements gives goosebumps in a happy way.

Little Pleasures

Location: Loudon Street and Paddapukur

A patisserie fashioned in the way the French do, they make the most stunning cakes and desserts in the city. They had raised the benchmark of chocolate excellence when they started. Salted Caramel Chocolate Tart which won the hearts of many, Chocolate Macarons, Signature Belgian Chocolate Cake, Caramel Chocolate Choux, a very exotic chocolate Concorde and many more decadent desserts are there to woo you.

Smoked Chocolate Fondant

But the one dessert that stands out is Smoked Chocolate Fondant. It has a soft chocolate cake exterior with a molten centre and is served with vanilla ice cream. Once you have this, you will never forget the experience.

Bon Appetit

Location: Hazra Road and Salt Lake Sector 1

This café at Hazra has been a popular hotspot for more than a decade now and people across all age groups frequent there. Their chocolate desserts range from gooey to wholesome to sinful. Double Chocolate Muffin, Rum Chocolate Pudding, Rum and Chocolate Jar are a few of the many brilliant chocolate desserts.

Chocolate Avalanche

The one to definitely try on World Chocolate Day is their Chocolate Avalanche. It has a hot dark chocolate slice (fudgy chocolate brownie for eggless variant) served with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, choco chips and choco sticks.

Serafina

Location: Quest Mall

This Italian restaurant with an alfresco style of seating with a cosy yet cheerful ambience is the perfect place to try a dessert or two after a soulful Italian meal. Their Chocolate Hazelnut Crème Brulee is the best of the kind.

Focaccia Alla Nutella

Rich Chocolate Temptation and Chocolate Mousse are also extravagant but if you want something different, try the Focaccia Alla Nutella. This one will remind you of a pizza but is a dessert with oodles of Nutella stuffed inside a freshly baked focaccia and is served hot with powdered sugar. Now, that is what I call indulgence with a difference.

Fabelle

Location: ITC Sonar and ITC Royal Bengal

You cannot talk about chocolate and not talk about Fabelle. The only chocolate lounge in the city with the most premium single origin chocolates from the world over, this is like the bazooka of chocolate. If you are in a hurry, go for their boxes of Chocolate Ganache or the Ruby Gianduja or exotic Chocolate Bars with a variety of flavours. Their Salted Caramel Ganache is a beautifully plated dessert made from 64% dark Ghana chocolate and salted caramel. Some fruit coulis and a coconut sorbet sit on the plate to balance all the sweetness and the bitterness.

Patisserie by Franziska

Location: Russel Street

This is a small patisserie with some very delectable desserts. Their Macarons, Profiteroles, Pecan Pies and many more desserts are to die for. With superior quality ingredients, they tend to win the hearts of anyone who walks in. The Belgian Chocolate Gateaux is a sensational dessert that always pleases.

SKAI

Location: Quest Mall

This rooftop restaurant and lounge offers one of its kind dining experience. They serve some great chocolate desserts, which act as a perfect ending to an eclectic meal. Profiterole Vanilla Ice Cream sundae made with dark chocolate and served with Fennel Hot Fudge is a work of art but what stuns the most is the Gianduja Mousse (refer cover image). This one is a chocolate bar dessert with a creamy mousse inside. The exterior is milk chocolate and is served with a hazelnut micro sponge, caramelized mascarpone and orange coulis. It is almost too pretty to eat.

FabCafé

Location: Loudon Street Area

This cheerful cafe has a menu with a focus on health. Their motto is to not use sugar but unrefined jaggery, no maida but other grains, especially gluten-free, vegan food and more of that kind. And yes, they still managed to come up with a dessert you will never forget. The Grain Free Chocolate Cake is moist, feels rich and chocolaty. It is an utterly divine chocolate cake and will surprise many.
