From the ashes of Lutyens Cocktail House rises the second outpost of Plum by Bent Chair. Love it or hate it, the brand’s over-the-top decor is always in your face and grasping to be on your camera. You will constantly be reminded that this is also a furniture store - invited to visit their showroom upstairs and buy everything you lay your eyes on by the servers, by tabletop product promos, with furniture catalogues in the menu and dishes named after chairs and finally, be presented an I-pad catalogue with your cheque. Plum’s kitchen and its expansive shape-shifting bar highlight Asian-inspired creations. The 'Passion-ista', a tequila-based cocktail with passion fruit juice and kaffir lime leaves, was puckeringly bright. 'Salmon Truffle Cream Cheese Uramaki' was tasty despite the telltale flavour of stale Ikura. The 'Shanghai Dumplings' were a rendition of Xiaolongbao with fillings and a leathery casing. The 'Garlic Buttered Fried Rice', scented with a bit of ‘wok hei’, was delicious by itself. Among desserts, I tried 'Emmet Chair' (named after one their chairs) – shot glasses of syrupy hot chocolate, singed marshmallows and dry cubes of chocolate cake.
