A Delhi institution. This small space is no more than an adjunct to the hotel lobby where they used to serve tea, coffee and snacks but ever since the Taj opened in 1978, it became a wheeler-dealers' paradise. Deals were struck, governments were made and unmade, and new alliances forged over cups of Darjeeling tea in this Lounge. The Taj has now taken it upmarket with fancy tea service and snacks from Machan next door. But it remains Delhi's answer to LA's Polo Lounge: it is a place where serious business of all kinds is conducted.
