INSIDER TIPS

  • The 'Bakli Salad' is one of the signatures here and definitely one to start off with
  • The 'Gilori Paneer Tikka' is stuffed with an aromatic filling and that is what allows it to stand apart
  • Ask for the range of accompaniments, like the 'Freshly Churned Butter with Jaggery', the 'Spring Onion Chutney', the 'Namak Para' and the 'Khajur Aur Bhune Pyaaz K Raita'

This star property just outside its arrival gates of the Bangalore Airport is such a lovely addition to what is already my favourite airport in the country. Tamarind, their Indian restaurant was the first to open its doors and offers dinner alone. The menu of the restaurant has been designed to bring the best of North Indian food to a diner’s table, with no fuss, no hoopla, just a focus on great flavours. Start with the 'Ghosht Pudina Yakhni', a lamb soup that is light with a touch of tanginess. It has little balls of hand pounded lamb meat in them, which you should allow steeping in the soup before eating them. The 'Chane Ka Ark', an extract of black chickpeas is also great. The 'Murgh Reshmi Seekh' gives you subtle flavours of potent ingredients like ginger and green chillis along with the meat. The 'Kakori Kebab' must be eaten straight off the melt and its ability to simply melt away in your mouth is magical. The 'Sheermal Tart Mein Galouti' is a nice little twist with the roti being shaped into a tart cup. Among the main courses, 'The Qasar E Pukhtan', a paneer roulade with squash nut and gravy is a good choice. The 'Kukkad Methi Saag' as well as the 'Laal Moth ki Daal' combine really well with some of the rotis such as the 'Kuti Mirch Jaituni Naan' and the 'Saufiyani Khameeri Roti'. Ask for the 'Malai Lassi' and make a heavy dining spoon stand straight in it. You will love the whole deal. The baked 'Gajrilla' is the dessert to go with.

About Tamarind, Taj Bangalore, Bengaluru

The lure of a good curry accompanied by buttery flatbreads is too good to be true. Dunking a piece of bread in piping hot curry is a tradition that calms one down, especially if they are North Indians. Not every restaurant is able to cook good North Indian food, it takes skill to get the balance of spices just right, which is why to help you out we have bought to you a fool-proof name that won't disappoint you at all. ‘Tamarind' may be a fairly new entrant on Bengaluru's fine dining scene but with it's timeless curry fare the restaurant has become a household name. It's hard to break into curry market in any city but Tamarind manages to do that with an ease. Judge it for yourself by driving to Taj Bangalore, Near K.I.A., Devanahalli.
