It seems that Japanese cuisine has taken the imagination of Amdavadis since a couple of Japanese restaurants and many smaller joints have opened up in the city. Also, there are many Japanese regularly visiting the city due to the Honda and the Maruti Suzuki car plant which have come up in the area. The newest entrant is Kuro, The Asian Bistro which is located on the first floor of the Renaissance Hotel in Sola. It has an understated classy design with the place done up in pastel colours predominantly in ivory and beige. The partitions here have cherry blossom designs on it. Cherry Blossom is considered the national flower of Japan so it is apt design. The staff here is well trained, polite and efficient. It is a small place which at present opens only in the evening. The food here is made with great care and the presentations are beautiful which is essential as it adds to the overall experience. Try the 'Wok Tossed Edamame with Garlic and Chillies' to begin with. Edamame is Soybeans in their shells and one need to push the beans out of the shell to eat it. There are 2 tempura dishes on the menu, a 'Vegetarian' and 'Prawn Tempura'. It is crispy and with the tempura sauce tastes lovely. The 'Tonjiru Soup with Pork and Vegetables in Miso' is very tasty so if you eat pork, do not miss it. Try the 'Okonomiyaki', which is a savoury pancake and there are many options available here. I would say try the 'Rock Shrimps', 'Spicy Miso Glaze' option. As far as Sushi’s goes, try the 'Maki Rolls' which are seaweed wrapped sushi. The popular ones here are 'California Maki', 'Salmon Roll' and 'Unagi' which is an eel. Lots of vegetarian options of Sushi are available on the menu like 'Asparagus Tempura', 'Wakame' and 'Shitake'. For the main course, there are seafood, chicken and vegetarian options. Also, there are rice and noodle dishes with over a dozen choices on the menu.
