About The Konkan Cafe, Vivanta President, Mumbai

The Konkan Café exemplifies an exclusive blend of traditional & progressive renditions of Southern India and West coastal cuisine, which is rooted to the gravitas of the unique tastes, aromas & flavours of southern Indian spices. Stepping into Konkan Café feels like you’re being invited into a cosy yet aristocratic family home. The restaurant is modelled after a ‘nallu kettu' (traditional Kerala residence) with carved pillars, evocative artwork - including canvases by Goa’s beloved artist Mario Miranda – and hand-cast kansa crockery and cutlery. A colourful umbrella salute and jaunty birthday song for diners on their special day are amongst the many charming personal touches at Konkan Café. The menu features authentic, home-style recipes from Mumbai, Alibag, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Goa, North Kanara, Udupi and Kasaragode and the comfort food from the five states of South India. Regulars are addicted to the Mutton Shukkhe, Taleli Sungte, Meen Polichattu, Malwani Chicken Curry, Mappilla Biriyani, Bebinca and Elneer Payasam.

Insider Tips
Solomon is now experimenting with Maharashtrian cuisine from Kohlapur which is hard to find at restaurants. His version is outstanding
  • You will get all the old favourites: a melt-in-the-mouth mutton sookha, clams in Goan masala, Kerala Prawn curry, etc. But ask for the fish biryani made to Solomon's mother's recipe. And remember this is the only five-star Indian restaurant in Bombay to have never served a single roti in its history!
  • If you are celebrating something then let the server know. An elaborate celebration will follow and if you are not easily embarrassed by too much attention, depute someone to take a phone video to share with your friends
