A heritage property finally restored to its former grandeur, The Lalit Great Eastern is one place that cannot be missed, especially its bakery. It has got all the nostalgia and favourite bakery items of erstwhile Calcutta under the roof. Starting with an English breakfast early in the day, sandwiches, and other confectionary and savoury items are also available throughout the day. Try out the dim puff (egg puff) if available and get transported back to old Calcutta. In an effort to preserve the nostalgia, they have kept the century-old baking oven at the entrance and the other huge old baking oven has been converted into a private dining area – an ideal place to have serious discussions over a cup of coffee.

The food here is particularly nice. Known for its Juices, Variety of Bakeries, Waffles, Deserts and cafe type food, the place is very happening. It offers a lot in terms of well-prepared and ideally presented food. The Popsicles they serve are perhaps the best in the town. The other things that you can try over here are Falafel, Mezze platter which is served with four dips is simply divine. Try their English Breakfast which comprises of Omelette with Mushrooms and a bread basket, Eggs benedict with smoked Salmon, Veg and Chicken Puffs, Earl grey tea and cafe latte. The Strawberry Almond Milkshake is too good. Banana oats cookies, which they serve with coffee are exceptional. It is thought to be a one stop destination for the best baked food in town. Portion size is decent and is adequate enough to be shared.
