Ohri’s Tansen is all about grandeur. The restaurant has been designed to look like a royal court and you feel that you are transported in time. An alley with huge pillars on both sides leads you to the seating area. There is a designated place for the musicians who sing live ghazals in the evening. The waiters are also dressed like khansamas of yesteryears. My multiple visits to this place have resulted in identifying some clear favourites from the menu which has Mughlai as well as Hyderabadi dishes. 'Marag' the yoghurt based Hyderabadi lamb soup is the ideal way to start the meal here. 'Paneer Dum Roll' with shallow-fried rolled paneer stuffed with veggies and cheese is definitely a vegetarian’s delight. Another popular item on the menu is 'Dahi Ke Kabab' prepared from hung curd. The methi and onion based 'Baghmati Murgh' goes well with the assorted varieties of bread from 'Roti ki Tokri'. This is one of the few places in Hyderabad where you get the local dessert 'Jauzi Halwa'.
