Walk in anytime between 11 am to 11 pm for a feast in this up market restaurant. Rony and Susie Martins bring to the fore mother's recipes from yesteryears past. A research over other mother’s forgotten recipes from different parts of Goa dons the menu. One could tend to drive past it on the bustling streets of Miramar. Set in a small bungalow with an enclosed garden, one enters an air conditioned room with local artifacts reflecting a nostalgic era. The must-tries – the crab xec-xec masala and the sungtachi kodi. The service is casual, perhaps in keeping with the Goan culture, but timely and competent.

About Mum's Kitchen, Panaji, North Goa

It a motto of ours while travelling, ‘live like the locals do’ and when in Goa the best way to see the city is through its vibrant food. Goan food has its rich history and is greatly influenced by Portuguese culture. When in Goa make it a point to find some small eatery well-known to the locals to truly experience what this charming seaside town is all about. Ask your cabbie or a vendor for recommendations on where to eat and we bet most of them whispering ‘Mum’s Kitchen’ into your ears. This lovely popular eatery is ensconced in the lanes of cultural Panaji. Look out for it in Martins Building on Dayanand Bandodkar Street. The restaurant is open between 11 am to 11 pm. Take along a foodie friend or go for a casual date, the ambience is perfect.

The idea behind Mum’s Kitchen is to give the diners a homely culinary experience. The owner duo, Rony and Susie Martins, brings forth mother’s old recipes lost in time. These recipes are handpicked from different parts of Goa and finds one platform at Mum’s Kitchen. You are in for a gastronomic treat. Enjoy the food with a drink of your choice from their impressive bar menu. For a genuine Goan touch, ask your server for a glass of Feni, Goan’s regional drink. Wade into the menu with, Sopa de camarao, tamoso, beef pepper garlic, batat kalimiri, foddi, bharleli kelli and tisryo dangar. Dig in deeper with an assortment of Goan mains such as, pork vindalho, chicken cafreal, pedrinhache balchao, mankyo amot tik, lepo hooman, moonganchi ghanti, shivodache kodi and Mother’s curry.

Mop up these exceptional Goan curries with a serving of pulao or sannas, which is a steam Goan bread made from toddy & boiled rice. Accentuate your meal with the restaurant’s homemade pickles. The chef makes deliciously tangy pickles of prawn, gherkin, cauliflower and even mackeral. Kids get their own special menu brimming with yummy seafood. Sip on a refreshing English tea with your final sweet course. Crepe Mum, bebinca, sakharbhat, alle belle are some desserts worth trying. Mum’s Kitchen is set in a charming villa enveloped by a dense green foliage. Inside, the room is traditionally designed to infuse the feel of Goa through pictures, basket of coconuts and utensils. Low hung beams in wood offsets pale walls beautifully. For a tad expensive prices, enjoy a classy casual dining in Goa.
