Bringing some drama into meal times

Bringing some drama into meal times

Zen, Leela Palace

The Leela Palace can transport you to an oasis of opulence and calm. The dining experiences here are equally unique and one that perhaps stands out is the Teppanyaki experience at Zen. At the helm of affairs is Chef Vadim Shin and the restaurant offers two tables that seat 8 people each. Watch the chefs here perform an array of tricks like the onion volcano, egg flips, beating heart, egg serpent and the creation of the ice cream crisp. Some of the signature dishes from the Teppanyaki are the Chilean Seabass, Yellowfin Tuna and the Black Cod that are served up in a choice of sauces like the Ebara Sauce (Apple, dried plums and soy mirin) or the Red Ginger Sauce (Chilli Vinegar Soy Sauce) or even the Miso Sauce (Miso, vinegar with seaweed sauce)

 Price: Rs 3500 for 2

Address: The Leela Palace, 23, Old Airport Road, Kodihalli, HAL 2nd Stage, Kodihalli, Bangalore

Shiro

This restaurant has ranked high on the popularity lists for a long time now and with good reason. The semi-alfresco seating overlooking the city also is home to two Teppanyaki tables that are manned by chefs who know more than a trick or two. From firing up the table to jugglery with eggs to creating patterns from rice and meat servings, you will love it all. The Mixed Vegetables With Soy and Garlic Sauce is a good pick as is the Chicken in Chilli Bean Sauce. The Teppanyaki Udon Noodles go brilliantly with prawn in lemon with scallions. Make room for desserts too (not from the Teppanyaki) that can be quite a treat.

Price: Rs 2000 for 2

Address: Shiro, 222, 3rd Floor, Triple Height, Vittal Mallya Road

Broadway

It is brilliant that this particular part of south Bangalore has a restaurant that offers some great sushi and Japanese dishes with a twist. And it is the Teppanyaki that definitely catches the interest of one and all. The chef here has a quite a dramatic flair. You will be asked to hold on tight for the show, be regaled with flames going roof-high and even take in some well-planned jugglery bloopers. Once you are done with an array of the sushi available on the regular menu, you should ask for some of the Pork in Hoisin Sauce from the Teppanyaki to truly make a brilliant meal. There is a lot on offer as well if you want your meal entirely of this.

Price - Rs 2000 for 2

Address: Broadway, 4th Floor No, 2802, 27th I sector, 31st Main Rd, Agara Village, 1st Sector, HSR Layout

Yataii

Shangri-la has a fabulous collection of restaurants, each serving up gourmet food from a selected range of International and Indian cuisine. Yataii is an ace up their sleeve for sure. The sumptuous fare here apart, the teppanyaki experience is definitely one you want to have. Helmed by Chef Ramtea, the teppanyaki here serves up both vegetarian as well as meat-based dishes. You begin a meal with the signature Kaizen Okonomiyaki with various seafood. The tricks include like flambéing, playing with eggs, making the onion volcano, flaring with a spatula and interesting design presentations with fried rice. A signature dish here is the Ebiyaki - a mix of Lobster and Prawn cooked together with lemon butter sauce. The Teppanyaki Bar at Yataii can easily accommodate up to 10 people.

Price: Rs 3000 for 2

Address: Shangri-La, No 56-6B, Palace Road, Abshot Layout, Vasanth Nagar, Abshot Layout, Vasanth Nagar, Bangalore

Teppan

The very name of the restaurant is derived from the two large Teppanyaki tables that take pride of place on the property. With each table able to seat around 10 people, the whole concept of dining with strangers takes on a new and happy meaning. The fact that they also make children feel very at home, is a great plus point. Do not miss out on the whole show which begins with some egg jugglery. This is then cracked on to the hot surface of the grill with a flourish and with some interesting patterns – think your name is written on an egg. The Chicken And Egg Fried Rice is a great pick here and do ask for some extra toasted garlic if you are like me. The Yaki Soba Noodles with meat is also a great pick.

Address: Teppan, 2nd, Floor, 1/3, Ulsoor Road, Hanumanthappa Layout, Sivanchetti Gardens, Ulsoor,

Price: Rs 2500 for 2
