Explore these exciting and inexpensive options that spell romance

It need not always be a romantic dinner at an expensive restaurant with an idyllic setting on Valentine’s Day. The idea is to spend time together and enjoy yourselves on this day, which spells romance and togetherness. What’s more, you could even walk down Carter Road Promenade or Marine Drive and enjoy just a Chaat or even a Masala Chai at a neighbourhood café. One need not always burn a hole in one’s pocket to have a great time. Mumbai offers several opportunities to have a good time, without spending too much. My top 5 suggestions:

1. Begin your day by having an affordably priced breakfast together at Aloha, Juhu, a newly opened cosy eatery with elegant interiors and a relaxed vibe. Opt for Feta and Chives Scrambled Eggs, Quiche Lorraine, Pancakes. Round this off with a Cappuccino. Walk down Juhu Beach and spend quality time together.

2. Step into La Folie Lab, Bandra, mid-morning and share a Salted Caramel Smoothie and an Almond Croissant maybe. Sharing with your partner in fact strengthens your bond.

3. A quick and fun lunch at the vibrant Chin Chin Chu in Lower Parel, will uplift your mood. From Sushi to Sashimi and Dumplings to a One-pot Meal, you can relish it all in this place with colourful and funky interiors. What’s more, it is quick and affordable too. The melt-in-the-mouth mysterious Tiramisu is worth indulging in, if you are still craving dessert.

4. As evening sets in, head to Marine Drive, take a walk and watch the sun go down. A bit hungry? Then head to Bachelorr’s at Chowpatty and savour an easy-on-the-wallet, spicy Grilled Sandwich or a thin crust pizza. Have a Strawberry Maharaja from their special strawberry menu and let the sweet flavours and pink hues entice you both.

5. End your day with a simple, unpretentious, but satiating dinner at the simple, The Sassy Spoon at Nariman Point. Sip a Coco Passion Bellini, if a cocktail is what you fancy, or opt for a Basil and Ginger Mojito. A bit of splurging is in order today after all. Try the Berry Sassy Specials menu, which is innovative. Begin with the Very Berry Arugula Salad, move onto a Herb-marinated Grilled Chicken or a Spinach, Corn and Green Peas Risotto. Round off that perfect meal on a sweet note with the decadent Sassy Strawberry and Chocolate Tart.

So, this Valentine’s Day, be different. Walk hand in hand, sip a beverage together, share a quiet meal at a café and perhaps catch a nice movie post-dinner. Enjoy your time together without having to conform to norms and be extravagant.
