Mexican food is slowly catching on becoming a favourite with diners, and, no matter where you choose to dine, chances are you will come across a plate of tacos. Some consider them snacks some an entire meal but there is no denying this humble dish is a crowd pleaser. It is also unfortunately possible to find some very sub-standard tacos, so, we have picked out some of our favourite restaurants in Mumbai that we know serve some mean tacos.


Sammy Sosa, Oshiwara, Western Suburbs - The city's longest reigning Mexican restaurant has never disappointed its diners. Sammy Sosa in a legend and has managed to stay popular through the years consistently dishing out good food. Their Whacko Tacos as they like to call them are crunchy hard shell corn tacos filled with lettuce, cheese and your choice of fillings. Alfredo Corn or Chilli Beans works well for a vegetarian taco but the Minced Lamb or Chilli Beans with Chicken are popular picks.

Sancho's, Khar, Western Suburbs - The newest kid on the Bandra block is possibly the best Mexican-themed restaurant in the city right now. Not that there are many but Sancho's really shines with their menu choices. Chef Esdras Ochoa who is known back in Los Angeles for his exceptional tacos, has created an envious taco menu with ample to choose from. Choose from soft or hard shell corn or wheat tacos and brace yourself for brilliance. The best on the list is the Ensenada Fish Taco.

The Bombay Canteen, Lower Parel, South Mumbai - You certainly wouldn't think of The Bombay Canteen when you think about tacos but this innovative hot spot will surprise you with their very own street style version of an Indian themed taco. The Desi Tacos as they are called, come with three different fillings but the very best is the Goan Pulled Pork Vindaloo stuffed in three methi theplas is just too good to not include in this taco roundup. Do not be disheartened by the Indian ingredients, it makes for a delicious soft shell Indian themed taco.
