The concept restaurant chain comes to the suburb

Riyaaz Amlani finally brings his Social Offline chain to the suburbs with the fourth one opening at Khar in the lane behind Oh Calcutta.

The recently opened Taj Mahal Tea House has shown that it is still possible to have large restaurants in Bandra and that it doesn’t always have to be a two-seater with one fruit basket serving at a table, when it comes to cafes and restaurants in this suburb with very expensive rentals.

The Social at Khar is even larger and has two stories, and they plan to open up the basement for concerts later.

They also have a skate rink at the front of the property.

Like all Socials, this one too can play multiple roles.

You can have a robust breakfast in the morning as the place opens at 9 am. If you are bored of eggs benedicts, go for a kheema pav.

During the day, it serves as a work space with the upper floor dedicated to this. There are a row of tables and chairs with charging points where you can work from. Most of their furniture is recycled which is a quirky contrast to cafes with a plush décor. The chairs are an assortment of re-upholstered easy chairs, dining chairs and sofas. Great to lounge on and brainstorm. Doesn’t look that ergonomically appealing for people who want to sit and write or blog for hours though.

It has a fairly funky bar on the ground floor for the grasshoppers to come out to party at night, once the ants have shut shop for the day.

A smart strategy to keep a restaurant full through the day by appealing to diverse consumer groups and therefore, hopefully, taking care of the rentals.
