The best thing about dessert is that they work on any occasion. Christmas might be over but the festive season is very much in full swing. These are some desserts traditionally eaten this time of year and Mumbai is full of them. We picked our favourite and the places we think you must absolutely eat them at! Happy Holidays folks!

Stollen - This Christmas bread is made with fruits, nuts, spices and dusted with powdered or icing sugar so it looks snow white is a hot favourite this time of the year. It's a traditional German bread that's a big hit with children especially when you cut into it and look at the colourful studded fruits. You do not see a Stollen in too many bakeries but Theobroma has been making them for years and you can even find it at the Taj Lands End along with other Christmas goodies.

Christmas Cake / Pudding - When you think of Christmas the first dessert that comes to mind is a rich decadent Christmas cake or a steamed Christmas pudding. Bakers take immense pride in soaking their fruits in rum or cognac weeks in advance to ensure the richest booziest cakes and it's a treat that is relished well into the new year. Indigo Deli ( any of their outlets ) make wonderful Christmas Pudding and the Grand Hyatt makes fabulous Plum cakes. A combination of both is best had at Celebrations Fine Confections where they make a stellar pud cake ( a cross between the two ) that is devoured by loyal customers year after year.

Rum Balls - Liquor in cakes and chocolates is always a good thing and Christmas and New Year is the best excuse to load up on them. Rum Balls are a beautiful little treat that quite frankly are deceptively filling. They're sometimes made with cake crumbs but usually a lot of chocolate and well, rum! They're a great addition to any party and complete mood lifters so if you're in the mood for a rum ball or two, pop by Mavs Cakes & Bakes in Bandra or then Quality The Cake People who have been making the most exceptional rum balls for the last couple of years.

Christmas Cookies - There are cookies and then there are festive cookies. Who can resist nibbling into deep intense ginger cookies or even sugar cookies that are shaped like starts and Santa. Some of the cutest cookies with the best shapes and icing are found at Toujours pattiserie as well as Mag St Kitchen and not only do they make fabulous treats for children but you can wrap them up and use them as tree ornaments.

Yule Log - The Sassy Spoon is known for their incredible desserts and come Christmas time there's so much they do but it's the Yule Log that is the very best on their menu. This sweet chocolate roulade shaped like a log is the perfect treat if you don't enjoy a fruit Christmas cake and while you can find it almost everywhere, no one makes it quite like The Sassy Spoon does.
