Bangalore’s Newest Pan-Asian Hot Spot, Say Hello to 1Q1

Great food, good tipple and live shows make for a great place to hang out

Great food, good tipple and live shows make for a great place to hang out

If there is one thing that was needed in this part of town, it was a classy Pan-Asian restaurant. 1Q1 derives its name from its address - #1 Queens Road, Bangalore -01. So with that mystery out of the way, let me take you past it gold empanelled wooden gates and through what is on offer.

Let us start with the fact that this is a massive space – choose to sit in the al-fresco area, the lounge area indoors, with a great view of the large bar, the formal area – anywhere. And no matter where you are seated, the view of the live performance area is perfect.

The bar has been up to some serious tricks and you can consider starting off like I did with the Devil’s Tail –Thai Red Chilli In Lychee Juice – packs quite a spicy punch, which is heightened with the alcohol and eased with the sweetness of the lychee. The Berry Grappo is another good pick with Stolichnaya Vodka with imported red grapes shaken with homemade orange peel and rosemary syrup.

Start off with Japanese The Prawn Tempura; that is crisp and steaming and follow that up with the Rainbow Roll, pretty as a picture and equally delicious going in. The Lava Roll is another great one to follow up with. For Sashimi lovers, the Tuna Sashimi is top notch – the amazing thing is that the fish is sourced locally which is definitely a hard thing to do. And one I was trying for the first time was the Scallops Sashimi. For something completely different, do try the Tuna Ceviche with Aji Amarillo Chillis. Those delicious, fresh chunks, in that divine chilli infused sauce, is something you are going to think about for a long time. If you are thinking of taking a small break – then the Miso & Wakame Soup is quite the pleaser or if you are like me, you will opt for the Smokin Jazz – with a base of Gordon’s gin, smoked balsamic vinegar and elderflower syrup.

If you like Dumpling and Sui Mai, then there is quite the collection here to choose from. Think of ordering the Chicken Gyoza Scallop Sui Mai or the Crab Meat Dumpling or even the lovely and crunchy Vegetables and Chive Dumpling. Each one of these is packed to the gills, do not crack on the chopstick journey from bowl to mouth and come with dipping sauces that are not one-mix-fits-all and if you want something really sinful, the Edamame and Black Truffle Dumpling is a must-try.

Off the Robatayaki, the Octopus stands really tall but if you want to go with something safer, then the lamb is a good bet. You can also consider nursing an Aces Wild – a Cinnamon and Apple infused Jim Beam cocktail. And what is fun, is the way the cinnamon stick can be fired up at your table.

Desserts have a nice Asian touch to it and you can consider the Matcha & Raspberry Ice Cream and Meringue Cake as well as the Japanese Cheese Cake with Raspberry Sorbet to round off your meal. You will not be sorry.
