Tickle your taste buds with sweet treats in Mumbai

The people of Bandra have a prominent sweet tooth and there are a variety of desserts on offer for them. The eclectic fare here offers sweet treats of varying vintages and origins. You have new age French confectioneries sharing space with old school Goan bakeries in Bandra.

These are a few places you could head to:

Candies at Mc Ronnel

This popular Bandra café offers reasonably-priced cheesecakes, indulgent gooey brownies and little petit fours which pair beautifully with rather robust cappuccinos. Some of the desserts on offer here such as the lemon roll & Danish pastry are originally from the kitchens of the Goan Pereira family which own Candies. Watch for children giggling by the counters that offer sweet takes on Angry Birds and Minions.

Punjab Sweets

This sweet shop at Pali Naka, run by the Gulati family, is equally popular for its range of North Indian sweets and hygienically served Mumbai and North Indian street food chaats. The freshly fried samosas and jalebis here make for a nice breakfast. The gajar ka halva is pretty popular in winter

Pinkberry

Offering a counterpoint to the heavy ghee-doused mithais are the frozen yogurt shops of Bandra. Bandra took to them right from the beginning when frozen yogurts were introduced in Mumbai and the first few frozen yogurt shops were launched in Bandra. The Pinkberry outlet at Pali Naka has comfortable seating and the salted caramel yogurt here is popular among those with a sweet tooth.

Le 15 Patisserie

If bakeries like American Express Bakeries and Candies represent the classic heritage of Goan bakeries, Pooja Dhingra’s Le 15 Patisserie offers the modern face of Mumbai’s confectionery scene. The Bandra outlet of Le 15 offers coffees to go with the delectable French macarons here. The best are the dark chocolate ones. Or you can go with a dreamy creamy red velvet cupcake or an indulgent choux pastry.

Sweet Bengal

Bengali sweets are much sought after in Mumbai and ironically enough have been made by non-Bengali-run sweet shops. The Sweet Bengal chain is the only serious option for true blue Bengali mishtis here. Bandra is where they first entered after they expanded from their base in Mahim. The location opposite Mini Punjab on 16th Road is their third one in Bandra. Step in to try the traditional Bengali delights such as nolen gurer sondesh, dorbesh, mishti doi and kheer kodom.
