Breakfast can be heavy duty meals packed with flavour that you can head out for on a lazy weekend or when paranthas are home got boring. Here are the breakfast options you can try in Chandigarh.

The Cafe @ JW

If you are looking to be spoilt for choice (read buffet) then head over to The Cafe @ JW Marriott in Sector 35. It is a full-on spread of Continental and Indian breakfast all at one place. Since it is housed in a 5-star property, pyjamas might be frowned upon.

Backpackers Cafe

Eggs to order, pancake stacks, Bangers Mash...Backpackers cafe (they have an outlet in Sector 9 D and Elante Mall) takes its breakfast very seriously and they offer it all through the day. Their Spanish Omelette served with 3 slices of bread, butter, jam, hash brown potatoes and grilled tomatoes, is just the kick-start you need for the day ahead. Vegetarians should opt for the Veggie Built – sautéed onions, mushrooms, green peppers and 2 kinds of cheese served on Pita. The Cold Coffee is all kinds of coffee goals.

The Hedgehog Cafe

A new arrival in Sector 7, the Hedgehog has won us over not just for its ambience but an evolving menu. The breakfast options are robust – eggs to order, German sausages with deep pan options as well. The fluffy pancakes are just what you need to lift you up, again any time of the day.

New Doaba Sweets & Rasoi

A traditional sweet shop in Sector 21, Doaba Sweets serves some mean breakfast options. The Channa Bhatura and Aloo-Puri are legendary, as are the Paranthas and Fresh Curd Combos. And since they are such a sell-out, make sure you arrive on time.

Student Centre

More fondly known as Stu-C in Punjab University, the Students’ Centre is one of the most popular foodie joints for students and non-students alike (including alumni). From Milkshakes to Fresh Juice, fat and filling Paranthas to Sandwiches and Cold Coffee, the umpteen shops lined up here offer it all.

A meal for 2 will cost Rs 200.

Indian Coffee House

One of the oldest players to offer breakfast in the city, Indian Coffee House – it has outlets in Sector 17 and 35 – rolls out Omelettes, Masala Dosas, Vada-Sambhar, Idli-Sambhar and Coffee all through the day. We love their version of sweet French Toast made in a rustic, home-style way.
