Sometimes all you need is a nice drink to break your fast and ease yourself into Iftar. This drinks do just that!

During the Ramzan season, there is always a lot of talk around the food that comprises a great iftar meal. A number of conversations also revolve around the desserts that are such an integral part of this meal. But little is spoken about some of the wonderful drinks that also find a place on the table. Of course, the never-grows-old rose sherbet or milk is definitely on the cards each time, but along with that, here are some other really cool drinks you can indulge in. In case you do not have that friend’s home that you can head on over to, here are also restaurant suggestions to help you get your fix.

Badam Milk – At most street based iftar places you will always find a large vessel of this on a slow boil, loaded with dry fruits to give it that extra body. Also called Harisa, when you ask for a glass, a long ladle goes into the milk, it is stirred and poured into the glass with a flourish. Of course, have your street side fix of this drink. And if you happen to be in Indiranagar, then Bhartiya Jalpan is definitely a place you to get this.

Kulukki Sharbat – A refreshing drink from Kerala, here is lemonade that is shaken along with some basil seeds, a slit green chilli and cold water. Of course, there are several variations to this drink today. So, famous has this drink become, particularly during the Ramzan season that you will find quite a few stalls across the city where the flipping skills with a shaker are as good as the top bartender in town. If you want to give this drink a whirl, do order it at Salt Mango Tree.

Sulaimani Chai – Now here is a hot tea that comes with a twist, a twist of lemon. The tea is brewed to light intensity and to it is added some sugar and then some lemon. There is little else that comes close to the soothing goodness of this chai after an indulgent iftar. Head on over to Chavadi on Bannerghatta road to get yourself a cup of this goodness. All of the Empire restaurants across the city also serve this.

Nannari Sharbat – Nannari is a root from which is made a concentrated syrup. To make the sharbat, it is diluted with cold water and to it added a squeeze of lemon. Besides being very refreshing it is also an excellent coolant and energizes the body. Indulge in a tall glass of this at Ente Keralam.

Thandai – Yes, as a drink the Thandai is quite popular across the country. It is a milk based drink that is infused with dry fruits and saffron. Best enjoyed cold, you will find great versions of this at any of the Rajdhani outlets in the city as well as at the relatively new Maziga.
