These hearty bowls of Ramen are perfect this time of the year during the monsoon!

As far as food trends go, Ramen is a big one. This Japanese dish of noodles cooked with meat in a broth simmering with flavour is rage all across Mumbai and diners cannot seem to get enough. This deceptively simple dish has layers of flavour and takes a certain amount of patience to get it right. The hunt for a good Ramen bowl stops here, we have picked some of our favourite spots in the city where we know you will get a great Ramen.

Hello Guppy, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Western Suburbs - This funky Japanese restaurant will make you feel like you have set foot into a trendy Tokyo cafe and while the ambience is lively and staff friendly, it is really the food that wins over everything else. Donburi, Katsu, Sushi and all the other usual suspects are on the menu but for that one pot comfort meal, it has to be their Ramen Bowls. The Pork Ramen with either Miso Broth or Soy Broth is the best on their menu but the Vegetable Miso Ramen is quite impressive.

Kofuku Japanese Restaurant, Linking Road, Bandra West, Western Suburbs - While Japanese cuisine has become popular in the last couple of years, Kofuku was one of the first Japanese restaurants to open in the city. There is no fusion here just straightforward Japanese dishes and some of the best sushi you can get your hands on. There are three ramen bowls on the menu here and both are flavour bombs. The Shoyu Ramen served with soy sauce, dashi broth and your choice of meat and vegetables or the Miso Ramen with miso dashi broth and your choice of meat or vegetables. The best, however, is the Tonkotsu Ramen that comes in a pork bone broth.

HengBok Korean Restaurant, Linking Road, Bandra West, Western Suburbs - A slightly unusual choice to pick a Korean restaurant for a list of Japanese Ramen but this Bandra restaurant has its own Korean Ramen which while different from the Japanese one, is just as good. The difference is slight and only Ramen experts will be able to tell the difference but the Korean noodles are spicy and the flavours a little bolder than the soft subtle Japanese ones. It is not authentic ramen but it is delicious and worth-a-mention.

The Fatty Bao, Linking Road, Bandra West, Western Suburbs - With multiple outlets across the city, Bangalore's favourite restaurant has fast become a local hotspot. The name suggests its Baos are their signature dish and while that is true, there is no denying that their Ramen menu is just as popular. The Chasu Ramen Bowl is their signature dish full of pork stock with bacon, braised pork belly, bean sprouts, a marinated soft boiled egg and lots of pulled noodles. The Grilled Seafood or the Exotic Mushroom ( for vegetarians ) Ramen are both great choices as well. (refer cover image)

Izumi, Bandra West, Western Suburbs - Undoubtedly, the most popular Japanese restaurant in the city, Izumi is where diners across the city will wait patiently for hours till they get a table. There is very little here that can disappoint and folks come here mainly for two things, the sushi and the ramen. The Broth for their ramen is painstakingly prepared for hours which is really what gives it a unique flavour and apart from the obvious pork and chicken choices they also serve a Vegan broth for vegetarian diners which is just as good as its meat-filled counterpart.
