  • They do provide gluten-free pastas in a choice of sauces which is a much healthier alternative to flour-based pastas
  • The classic dessert is the 'Bulls Eye', an ice cream and chocolate cake combo that has nostalgic significance in Delhi
  • Nobody goes there for the Indian food – which is a shame. The Indian cooks make outstanding food at relatively reasonable prices. So, ignore the coffee shop food and order a simple Indian meal

How you see Machan depends on how old you are. If you are above 30 you probably remember its original avatar, which was a much-loved Delhi institution. For over a decade, Machan has been the only hotel restaurant in Delhi to be run like a standalone by Chef-Manager Tapas Bhattacharya who knows every regular by name. Younger guests and out-of-towners may be less nostalgic and judge it on its own terms: as a smart hotel coffee shop with no pretensions about its purpose. There is a popular lunch buffet but the restaurant really comes into its own on Sundays when it hosts a lavish oysters and caviar brunch.

The presentation of the food matches the status of the place. It is MasterChef quality. For first course you can choose any salad between atlantic smoked salmon, scallops, tomato & mozzarella salad. If soups are your call then crustacean bisque, paloc, plum tomato soup and chicken & farro soup are served at the restaurant. For heavier bite lean towards scrumptious burgers. Machan BLT, steak slider, forest mushroom focaccia, tenderloin burgers will fill your stomach and heart. Italian recipes like al pesto, risotto funghi, arrabbiata, open vegetable lasagne, are tried out too. Continental entrees like tiger prawns, Chilean sea bass, panko crumbed reef cod, thai curry, seared salmon, wild mushroom and vegetable fricasse top the list. The indian food is highly recommended here. It is delicious and very popular. Indian mains of tawa masala mahi and dungar maas are simply delightful. Bull’s eye is the most favoured dessert. Besides that ginger panna cotta is good too.
