The biggest appeal of La Baguette is that you can order your bakes and pastries at the counter, and get them served in The Imperial’s gorgeous atrium. Gentle sunlight streams in from the ceiling onto charming rattan chairs. Tables are convivially spaced and the delicate cutlery and China will take you back in time. My Almond Croissant was decadent but quite one-dimensional; its layers groaning under marzipan. A dainty Fruit Tart boasted of a light custard-filling and fresh fruits, but the shell had gone moist and stodgy by the time I got to it. Cups of Americano and Café Mocha from Patiala Peg were excellent and served with buttery pine-nut butter biscuits.
