As far as mall-lobby cafes go, Café C definitely benefits from the luxe of The Chanakya. You can almost gaze-shop through the Hermes store or look at a giant, uhm, ‘lift-tower screensaver’. All without spending more than 500 bucks for a couple of good Espressos. The service tends to take the setting seriously - wait staff were prompt on their heels and patiently explained which kitchen my food came from. A basket of four 'Prawn and Basil Dimsum' were succulent and neatly pleated, though the casing was a tad thicker than I’d like. 'Smoked Salmon', 'Poached Egg and Avocado Salad' looked nothing like the salad I’d imagined. The bunker of smoked salmon was built on top of a poached egg (sadly cooked all the way through) and mashed avocado (with a tinge of brown) with dabs of dill dressing, sour cream and a stack of sautéed asparagus on the side. The 'Lemon Meringue Tart' was beyond redemption. A thick stodgy shell filled with half an inch of lemon curd and, topped with a meringue saturated with enough sugar to scrub your tongue.
