Consistently topping the charts for their crisp dosas and perfectly done filter coffee, Sagar Ratna remains an all-time favourite with most foodies in Chandigarh. It is a must-visit for those who relish south Indian fast food especially a variety of dosas like ‘Onion Masala Dosa’, ‘Rava Masala Dosa’ and ‘Butter Dosa’. The restaurant housed in the city’s busy market place in Sector 17, does not boast of fancy interiors – expect a classic looking, simply styled restaurant. But it’s a busy one, all through the day. Split into 2 levels, Sagar Ratna is always bustling with a potpourri of visitors – hungry shoppers taking a break, office goers catching a quick lunch, seniors meeting over a cup of coffee or families getting together for a south Indian dinner. Given the fact that the restaurant attracts varied age groups of diners, the menu is multi-cuisine. While South Indian dosas, vadas, idlis and combo meals take pride of place, the menu also packs in north Indian combo meals like ‘Paneer Naan with Gravy’, ‘Channa Chawal’, ‘Rajma Chawal’ etc. We really like their thalis - there are South Indian and North Indian thali on offer. The portions are very good and they are happy to refill the Sambhar and Chutneys. The service is always sharp here and despite the fact that there can be a wait for the table, it never takes long.
