Chandigarh sees tourists all through the year. And most of them, especially foreign travellers or those from other Indian states, are always looking to try a slice of regional cuisine. With its well-curated selection of north Indian fare and consistent quality, it is no surprise that Saffron ranks high on the much-recommended list. The speciality Indian restaurant, housed on the first floor of Hotel JW Marriott, opens only for dinner all through the week barring Sundays when lunch is on offer too. With wooden and pale gold hues, the place exudes a luxurious look. There is the option of sofas and dining chairs. There is also a view of the glass ensconced tandoor section where the chef can be seen tossing 'Naans' and 'Roomali Rotis'. The warm interiors and soft music add to the charm of this place. There will be many diners who complain that the menu is a tad lean but that actually goes in Saffron’s favour. We love the fact that even though the selection for some might be less, each of the dishes stands out for quality and flavour. On offer is a mix of Punjabi and Mughlai cuisine. The number of vegetarian dishes does not pale in comparison to non-vegetarian dishes even though the latter are the signature dishes. Having tried multiple starters, we would highly recommend the ‘Lehsuni Mahi Tikka’, ‘Murg Kanti’, ‘Malai Broccoli’ and ‘Dahi Kebab Roll’. The main course is equally robust. Choose from the likes of ‘Dhaba Gosht’, ‘Tari Wala Desi Kukkad’, ‘Amritsari Aloo Wadiyon Ki Subzi’ or ‘Mushroom Palak Ke Kofte’. The flavours are spot on and portions are decent. On the flip side, the service is a bit inconsistent and prices are steep.
