Bangalore is filled with Andhra cuisine restaurants and Vennela has just joined the fray. Though surrounded by restaurants, it still manages to hold its own and has a loyal fan following that begins to pour in at the lunch hour. The menu has the Andhra meals in 2 variants – the 'Regular Bhojanam' and the 'Special Bhojanam' that comes with a sweet, a fruit and a roti. The regular meal is quite a filler and one lovely addition that is different from the others is the presence of a flavoured rice. On my visit, it was my favourite, the 'Lemon Rice'. You can also consider adding to your vegetarian meal with the 'Guntur Chilli Chicken' which honestly, contrary to what you think is not a spicy affair. Rather it is mildly spiced and goes perfectly well with some rice, pappu and ghee. The 'Biryani' here, you are told upfront is not dum but more of a rice and gravy mix. The 'Chicken', I believe is quite the winner, though I had the 'Mutton' and found the rice slightly underdone. The restaurant does not do aerated drinks (at least not when I visited) but their 'Lemon Sodas' are freshly squeezed and a good accompaniment. The staff are often kind enough to serve everyone at the table with the sweet dish, even if it is part of the meals alone.
