  • Ask to sit in the garden area. Bangalore is one of the few cities in India where the climate is good all-year-round so make the most of the weather
  • Among the dim sums, order the cheung fans which are delicate and delicious and the Chicken Puffs which may remind you of the venison puffs that Yauatcha made famous in London
  • The mains are good (the classic lobster in XO sauce, for instance) but you may not have room for them after the dim sum

This may well be the most beautiful Chinese restaurant in India. The Lantern is the showpiece restaurant of the Ritz Carlton and no effort has been spared in trying to make it look different from the city’s other restaurants. Trendy Japanese design consultancy Super Potato has combined a garden-feel and al fresco experience with elegant but relaxed indoor seating in a locale that uses granite and hardwood. The food is more accessible than the décor may suggest and the menu is most notable for the large selection of dim sum. The overall feel of the food is reminiscent of Hakassan and Yauatcha, London restaurants that created the association between Chinese dining and hipness.

The food at The Lantern Restaurant & Bar is as authentic as it can get. Chinese elements are kept pure to elevate the flavour and impress the well-travelled palates of their affluent diners. Definitely dig into the dim sums as you will be treated to a wonderfully vast variety. They are equivalent to the ones served at Hakassan and Yauatcha, a high praise indeed. Mixologist creates some delicious signature cocktails like pineapple & wasabi punch, kaffir lime-chu hai or samurai, to complement the menu beautifully. Make the first course entirely of dim sums and proceed with the second one with, stir fried lobster with XO sauce, sweet & sour pork, drunken chilli chicken, stir fried lamb in Mongolian sauce, Peking duck with pancake, mapo tofu, steamed seasonal fish homemade black bean sauce and kung pao chicken.
