Located in Indiranagar, The Fatty Bao has a brilliant approach to its pan-Asian cuisine. Among the first restaurants in the city to bring in the idea of small plates – being able to try more dishes on the menu is always a possibility. Among the small plates, personal favourites in the Open Baos section are the 'Beef Bulgogi' and the 'Char Siu Bao' and if you are of the adventurous variety, the 'Tender Jackfruit Bao' is the way to go. Another dish I go back to repeatedly is the 'Chorizo', 'Bacon' and 'Egg Shengjian Bao' or the closed baos. Served with some great XO and a scallion sauce, you will be tempted to take up the extra piece at an additional price offer. Among the sushi, the 'Teriyaki Salmon', 'Cream Cheese' and 'Wasabi' as well as the 'Spicy Salmon', 'Cream Cheese' and 'Cucumber' are the ones to try. So are the 'BLT' and the 'Crab Meat' and 'Tobiko'. With 2 options in the Nigiri section, it is the 'Tuna with Yuzu and Soy' for me. Fatty Bao is well known for its dim sums – not dense at all, moist and packages of happiness on a plate. The 'Pork', 'Kohlrabi' and 'Green Chilli' is worth trying as is the 'Edamame Chilli', 'Garlic' and 'Tofu'. Among the Salads, I have always been partial to the 'Malabar Spinach' and 'Bokchoy with Corn' as well as the absolutely divine, 'Cold Green Tea Noodle Salad'. Continuing with small plates, the 'Shaking Beef', 'Salmon Carpaccio' and the 'Smoked Sriracha Pork Spare Ribs' are great. Not sure how much of sharing will happen with this small plates though. For the mains, the comforting 'Chicken Rice', a twist on the classic 'Hainanese Rice' is a good one to try as is the 'Nasi Lemak with Ayam Goreng. If you want to put together the main course, the 'Jasmine Sticky Rice' goes really well with the 'Beef Jungle Curry' as well as the 'Slow Cooked Lamb Massaman Curry'. If you like pork and spicy, then the 'Bicol Express' is for you. At The Fatty Bao, you have to make room for 2 desserts specifically – 'The Japanese Cheesecake' and the 'Lemon Tart'. Both are going to make you wish you had a secret tummy hidden somewhere to fill up on more. 'The Fatty Wine' list and mocktails go well with anything you choose on the menu.
